What is a 'Feather Edge' fence panel?

Featheredge fencing is a good, solid, practical, standard design that has been used to secure garden boundaries across the length and breadth of Britain’s housing estates.

The fact that it looks great makes it a solid choice, but it is also incredibly practical. The vertical overlapping featheredge strips take rainwater to the ground faster than other designs, helping to prevent rot and water damage.

Pressure Treated

The panels are pressure treated too, delivering a long life for your fence panels, and helping to preserve their good looks. They weather well, which is good news when faced with the changeable conditions experienced on these islands.

6x5 ft Panels

A five-foot panel will be perfectly adequate for most boundary fencing, dividing neighbouring properties, and will fit well over concrete or timber baseboards. Where there are height restrictions, five feet fall well within regulations.

Extra Privacy

A featheredge panel’s overlapped vertical boards help to preserve a sense of privacy too, with no gaps. Our quality, treated panels are robust and not prone to splitting or knot holes either and are of a consistent colour quality as we batch together large orders.

Five-by-six is big, so these fence panels are a two-person lift, but not so heavy that they cannot be fitted in between slotted concrete posts.

Featheredge panels are easy to customise for width at the end of a run or in a corner. The individual strips can be unpinned and refitted to suit or cut down to fit. It is always better to shorten a panel or add a post rather than try to extend a fence panel.

Another top tip is to let your neighbours know that you intend to upgrade your boundary fence, just in case the timing clashes with their plans. Perhaps they have an unruly or nervous dog? Maybe they have small children who will need to be kept separate from the working area.

These days it’s a good idea to take pictures before and after the work, not just for social media boasting, but for protection against claims of damage whether the job is DIY or pro.

To prevent climbing, remember to keep the cross rails to the interior, the safe side of the fence, and not to any public area.
