Birtley Lintels Overview
Their manufacturing facility meets BS EN ISO 1461, which is the British Standard for hot dip galvanising baths.
This post-production galvanising process for Birtley’s range adds approximately 65 microns of zinc coating. Assuming a corrosion rate of 1 micron per year, that’s an expected lifespan of 65 years before having to be maintained. In coastal regions the corrosion rate will increase to around 1.5-2 microns per year, but in very rural areas this drops to around 0.5 microns per year.
Birtley lintels are manufactured from structural grade steel (EN100025), which is said to be 30% stronger than the standard grade steel commonly used in the industry.
The range includes single leaf lintels, cavity wall lintels, and solid wall box lintels.
