Contractors PVA Adhesive Sealer 5l
Everbuild 506 Contractors PVA adhesive and sealer is a flexible, fluid multi-purpose product with a wide range of applications.
As part of the Everbuild chemical adhesive and sealant family, the five-litre 501 product is perhaps the most versatile.
Adding strength
Use it straight out of the plastic container as an admixture for your mortar. It makes it more plastic, mouldable and it increases the tensile strength of the brick bond.
When you need to use steel ladders as part of the strengthening, or structural strategy of a brick, or other masonry wall, use Everbuild 501 in the mortar mix to ensure the integrity of the job.
- Improves adhesion to most common building surfaces
- Improves flexibility of mortars and screeds
- Ideal for priming and dust sealing on flaking surfaces
- Ideal for adhesive on wood, cork, paper, textiles etc.
Adding stability
Flaking surfaces on renovated walls or poor finishes to newly built blockwork can be stabilised prior to plastering by the application, with a paint roller or brush, of Everbuild 501 direct to the surface. Use PVA when plastering to minimise the likelihood of plaster not adhering properly to a wall and flaking off or blowing.
The PVA will bond deeply to porous surfaces, reducing dust, and glueing together crumbling sub-surfaces such as cementitious block and plaster.
Additional uses
It can be used as a primer for a mist coat on new plasterboard if it is suitably watered down.
As a glue, for adhering timber, laminating panels, or other tasks, Everbuild 501 PVA is an excellent choice. Properly clamped, and if allowed to dry over 24 hours, it will perform very effectively as a builder’s PVA adhesive.
Additional products
It is not recommended for use on uPVC or rubberised products. For best results use with porous, or semi-porous materials.
However, do not use it in damp conditions, and never use it as an exterior adhesive as it is not moisture resistant. For tanking, use a slurry mix instead.

Builders PVA Specific Uses:
Contractors PVA as a Priming Solution
For general priming on absorbent surfaces dilute PVA by one part to four parts water and apply evenly to the substrate with a roller or a brush. Allow it to dry before proceeding.
Use only as a primer for cementitious products as paint will sit on top of a builder’s PVA primer and eventually peel.
PVA is the ideal priming solution for ceramic tiling, stabilising a surface before the application of tile grout and adhesive products.
PVA for Plastering as a Bonding Agent
For countering flaking and unstable surfaces prior to plastering or screeding, use contractors PVA neat. Apply with a brush to ensure good coverage and apply the render or screed while the PVA is still tacky.
PVA With Mortar and Screed
Adding Everbuild 506 improves the flexibility of mortar and screed products. Use 10 to 18 litres of PVA for every 50kg of cementitious product or mix two parts PVA to one part water.
Adding a PVA mix will improve the tensile strength and plasticity of the plaster or mortar mix, making for a more secure bond to the plastered surface, or between masonry courses.
In cold weather conditions use a frost-proofer to attain similar results.
PVA as a General-Purpose Adhesive
Use PVA undiluted for best results as a multi-purpose adhesive. Coat both surfaces to be bonded and press together. Clean off any excess with a damp cloth to prevent staining or excess remedial work.
Contractors PVA works well as an adhesive when at least one contact surface is porous, such as wood, cork or textiles.
Ideal for glueing large panels or laminating timber pieces. Ensure items are securely clamped for 24 hours to ensure adhesion.
PVA as a Cement and Wood Filler
PVA glue when mixed with cement or plaster, makes for a flexible fine filler for walls and ceilings. Use PVA undiluted for maximum filler strength and plasticity.
Carpenters and joiners mix sawdust with PVA glue to create a flexible wood filler that is guaranteed to match the timber they are working with. Ideal when working on restoration or renovation projects.
Use Premium Wood Adhesive for weatherproof applications when glueing timber.
Contractors PVA Limitations
PVA glue is not recommended for use in damp conditions or in areas exposed to moisture. Do not use in exposed external conditions and do not use for tanking. For waterproofing projects use a proprietary damp-proofing slurry.
